A Life of Their Own

I am thrilled to announce that A Life of Their Own is being reissued as a second edition with a brand new cover pack shot, on 9th September 2022.

As an author, this is fantastic news and something I am thrilled about. But it is the recent surge in cases of domestic violence during lockdowns that has meant this novel has never been more relevant.

I have a series of events, interviews and media coverage lined up and I do hope that if you are local to an event, you will come along as it would be lovely to see you. In the meantime, I would love to hear your thoughts on the new cover.

Available for Pre-Order Now

The new edition is available to pre-order now in the ebook version from Amazon at £3.99 and will soon be available to pre-order in paperback through my publisher, SilverWood Books. Both versions have a release date of 9th September. The paperback would make an ideal Christmas present! 😉

The ebook can be pre-ordered from Amazon, just click here or on the image below.

A Life of Their Own

A story of love, hope and resilience.

A Life of Their own has been described as inspirational for anyone suffering
from domestic violence as it follows Kate, both emotionally and physically, as
she flees an abusive marriage with her two young children.

I’ve mentioned in the past that this is not a traumatic read, instead, it focuses on moving forward and starting over. Kate must rediscover her strength and determination to ensure the safety of those she holds dear.

The Writing Process

While writing A Life of Their Own, it was essential to me that the setting,
the surrounding landscape, the senses and emotions the countryside
stirred, were truly authentic to the state of Colorado.

This was also the case for the topic of this novel.
My research was harrowing at times but, again, it was
essential that the emotions and fears I brought to this novel were
authentic and credible. It would have been an insult to everyone who had
found the strength to tell their story, otherwise.

First Edition

A Life of Their Own is my first adult fiction novel and it has taken me on a completely different writing journey.

Kate’s story is empowering and one I have wanted to write for many years. Differing greatly from my previous books, it tackles the serious subject of domestic abuse.

Delving into the emotional pain and trauma that sufferers go through was, to say the least, difficult. However, my aim with A Life of Their Own was to ensure it was not a traumatic read, instead, it focuses on Kate’s future. Flashbacks allow the reader to feel the emotional and physical pain that Kate endured and understand her reluctance to trust, move on and love again.

Described as…”a beautifully written novel by an extremely talented writer” and “moving and sensitive” A Life of Their Own is a fictional story about love, family, power, and control.

Follow Kate’s journey, both physically and emotionally, as she flees an abusive marriage with her two young children.

When Kate and her children step onto a bus early one Tuesday morning, she knows this is their only chance. Their only chance at freedom and at a life of their own. But, can she ensure their safety? Can she ensure they will never be found?

This is a feeling that haunts Kate as she and her children begin a new life far from New York, far from their troubled past.

But, little did she know that their new life would bring her closer to a different past, a life she had long given up, making her already fragile world more complicated than she could have ever imagined.

A mother’s love knows no bounds. Kate literally risks her life to save the lives of her two children, Jake and Lucy. Little does she know it at the time, but she will end up saving herself. This little book is big on love, trust and forgiveness. Great read. Thank you Netgalley for introducing me to my new favorite author!
