A Life of Their Own is my first adult fiction novel and it has taken me on a completely different writing journey…Kate’s story is empowering and is one I have wanted to write for many years. Differing greatly to my previous books, it tackles the serious subject of domestic abuse.
Delving into the emotional pain and trauma that sufferers go though was, to say the least, difficult. However, my aim with A Life of Their Own was to ensure it was not a traumatic read, instead it focuses on Kate’s future. Flashbacks allow the reader to feel the emotional and physical pain that Kate endured and understand her reluctance to trust, move on and love again.
Described as…“a beautifully written novel by an extremely talented writer” and “moving and sensitive” A Life of Their Own is a fictional story of love, family, power and control.
Follow Kate’s journey, both physically and emotionally, as she flees an abusive marriage with her two young children.
When Kate and her children step onto a bus early one Tuesday morning, she knows this is their only chance. Their only chance at freedom and at a life of their own. But, can she ensure their safety? Can she ensure they will never be found?
This is a feeling that haunts Kate as she and her children begin a new life far from New York, far from their troubled past.
But, little did she know that their new life would bring her closer to a different past, a life she had long given up, making her already fragile world more complicated than she could have ever imagined.

Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged. The characters were easy to invest in.
