Hello and welcome to my website!

I’m Pauline Tait, an award-winning children’s author & novelist, writing mentor and Editorial Manager for online magazine, Writers’ Narrative.

Living and writing in Perthshire, Scotland. I write both romantic suspense and children’s picture books and, although both genres could not be more different, both are a pleasure to write. My books are available worldwide in both paperback and Kindle versions. Purchasing links can be found here.

I am also a mentor to fellow children’s authors. Ensuring their manuscripts and production processes are meeting the accepted and expected standards within children’s publishing, standing them in better stead when they submit to agents and publishers. Or, if self-publishing, ensuring their books stand out from the crowd. More information can be found here.

When I’m not writing or mentoring, I am out and about holding author events in schools, libraries, book shops, and festivals. Please feel free to contact me via my contact page if you are interested in holding an event.

Award- Winning Illustrated Picture Books

The Fairy in the Kettle picture book trilogy has become a favourite around the world and I am delighted that it is still reaching new readers.

“I was completely absorbed by the author’s gift for writing children’s literature….The Fairy in the Kettle is a series that has captured my heart.” Louise Jane, CEO The Golden Wizard Book Prize.

More information on this beautifully illustrated trilogy can be found here.

Romantic Suspense

My most recent novel, Anna’s Promise is due for publication on the 26th of March.

It is the second book in The Maren Bay series and is, of course, also set on the stunning Isle of Skye.

The first book in the series, Abigail Returns, has enjoyed high rankings and has hit #1 in Amazon’s Hot New Releases lists, holding the ranking for some time. It has also been a #1 bestseller. For more information, click here.

Mentoring

Using my experiences and knowledge from working in Primary Literacy, and my knowledge of children’s publishing, I help authors ensure their manuscripts are as appealing and marketable as possible as they prepare to submit to agents or publishers. Or, if self-publishing, ensure their books stand out from the crowd by having the traditionally published look.

There is much more to writing a children’s book than simply writing the story. There are many factors to take into consideration to ensure a book is marketable and the productions processes are meeting the accepted and expected standards. I work with authors through the varying stages from vocabulary, right through to publication.

Ensuring you are meeting these accepted and expected standards will stand your book in better stead when it comes to getting your book on to the book shelves of major retailers such as Waterstones and Barnes & Noble, as well as independent book shops who are limited for space.

These are all elements I can help authors with, whether just starting out on their author journey or a seasoned author in need of a check-up. More information on the various sessions available and testimonials from authors who have attended my masterclasses or signed up for my 1:1 online Power Chats or Mentoring Sessions can be found here.

Author visits

Pauline Tait Author Novelist and Children's Author

I have been fortunate in that my writing has allowed me to reach out and encourage children through my school & library visits and bookshop & festival events. Having previously worked in primary literacy with children who needed extra-curricular support, I am passionate about our children’s futures and welcome these opportunities to encourage children in their own reading and writing. After all, both are essential to their future learning. More details on events can be found here.

If you feel your child needs a little encouragement with their creative writing or they are super keen and enjoy creating magical worlds of their own, then my ‘Becoming an Author’ article might be for you. It answers the questions children ask me during my school visits and follows the curriculum. They will, of course, need a skeleton! 😉

Reluctant Readers

I am delighted to be the voice behind Reluctant Readers, a monthly newsletter for parent and carers of young children who either struggle with reading or have a lack of interest in books.

Newsletters will give step-by-step guidance, advice, insights, and strategies aimed at helping you encourage your children to read from an early age and as they progress through primary school.

We will look at the reasons why children can become reluctant readers, from a lack of interest, concentration, patience or literacy skills to more in-depth needs such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism and other diagnosed and undiagnosed needs.

Newsletters are intentionally short and manageable, designed to fit with busy family life.
